What is a fleet vehicle?

Fleet vehicles are a group of motor vehicles leased or owned by businesses.

Companies use a fleet of vehicles for various reasons, such as delivering parcels and freight, taxi service, rental cars, etc. Fleet vehicles aren’t limited to land-based vehicles. Watercraft and aircraft vehicles can also be considered fleet vehicles.

There are four types of fleet vehicles:

  • Manufacturer and demonstrator vehicles
  • Government vehicles
  • Rental vehicles
  • Company vehicles

Examples of companies that own fleet vehicles are USPS, Coca-Cola Enterprises, and United Rentals.

Depending on the number of vehicles involved, companies might hire a fleet manager and use fleet management software to ensure fleet operations run smoothly.
